A Thought - Mary Cheney for Congress

Mary Cheney is the daughter of Vice President Dick Cheney. She's a Republican who actively campaigner for her father twice. She was the director of vice presidential operations for the Bush-Cheney 2004 campaign. She has a backgrond in business and worked in promotions with the Colorodo Rockies and as a public relations manager at the Coors Brewing Company to help end the boycott amongst the homosexual community of Coors. She's also openly homosexual.

Cheny currently lives in 10th Congressional District in Virginia, which is held by Republican Frank Wolf. Wolf is the most senior member of the Republican delegation in Virinia, being first elected in 1980. In 2008, a video surfaced of Frank Wolf watching one of his staffers beat two staffers of his opponent...with his cane. He won by a large margin nonetheless, but Frank has been in that seat for a long time. Change can be a good thing in this district. Cheney has enough experience to be a viable and competitive candidate, if she wants the job.

If she does, she'd be exactly the type of person the Republicans have needed to reach out to - gay persons who are aligned with them on other important issues. Her candidacy would be monumental in helping show that same-sex marriage supporters can be normal, contributing members of society with a traditional family appeal. Can she win in Virigina? I don't know but if she primaries Wolf or convinces him to retire, she'd be a great candidate and a wonderful representative of gay rights in Congress.
