Quick, Practical Thoughts on Sotomayor

I will be brief. Those on the right are going to be in an uproar with the nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court. The 55 year old Latina Judge has a notably more liberal view than myself and the Republican Party as a whole. The Republican opposition needs to remember the following - Sotomayor is being nominated to replace Supreme Court Justice David Souter. She is not being nominated to replace Scalia, she is not being nominated to replace Kennedy, she is not being nominated to replace Thomas. She is being nominated to replace a more liberal Supreme Court Justice. The balance of the court remains the same, period.

Feel free to vote against her, but you can not stop her nomination fully - you can only slow it down and make yourselves look bad in the process. Allow an up or down vote in the Senate and all Republicans should vote "Nay." Then move on from there. Pick your battles wisely - the moment Kennedy, Thomas, or Scalia are ready to be replaced...get ready to fight the President tooth and nail; but with Souter...it's much less of a big deal.
